Singapore, October 3, 2025 — The Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMC) at Daffodil International University (DIU) has taken a major step toward global collaboration by holding separate meetings with representatives from Google and YouTube at the Google Asia Pacific Headquarters in Singapore. The discussions focused on advancing AI-driven journalism, digital literacy and content creation training for young professionals in Bangladesh.
Collaboration with Google News Initiative
The first meeting was held with the Google News Initiative (GNI) team, represented by Adil Farhan from the Google News Partnership Project. From DIU, Aftab Hossain, Head of the JMC Department and Associate Professor Abdul Kabil Khan attended the meeting.
Both parties explored potential collaborations under the Google News Partnership Project, including organizing seminars, internships and master classes for journalism students to enhance their skills in digital and data-driven journalism.
Aftab Hossain emphasized the importance of integrating technology into media education, saying:
“At this juncture of media and technology, our collaboration with the Google News Initiative will open new horizons for students. The integration of AI tools in our curriculum demonstrates our commitment to preparing students for the future of journalism.”
The JMC department has already adopted Google’s AI tools and digital journalism resources to help students master modern reporting techniques and verify online information effectively.
Partnership with YouTube for Digital Content and Safety
The DIU delegation also met with Abu Saleh, YouTube Strategic Partnerships Representative at Google Asia Pacific Headquarters. The meeting focused on launching joint initiatives aimed at supporting young content creators, promoting digital safety, and providing training on community guidelines and responsible content creation.
Adil Farhan highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating:
“This kind of collaboration with a journalism department in Bangladesh is very important. We hope that this initiative will promote awareness about fact-checking, digital ethics, and AI tools in modern journalism.”
Strengthening AI Literacy and Media Credibility
Daffodil International University is already a strategic partner in Google’s ‘Information Credibility and AI Literacy Training’ program in Bangladesh. Through this partnership, DIU aims to empower future journalists with practical skills in AI literacy, fact-checking and ethical storytelling — strengthening the overall landscape of digital journalism education in Bangladesh.
