North South University (NSU), with support from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh, hosted Dhaka–China Day 2025 to celebrate the enduring friendship between Bangladesh and China.
Held at Audi 801 and the main auditorium, the day-long program brought together scholars, policymakers, students and cultural ambassadors for dialogue, cultural exchange and performances.
The event opened with a traditional lion dance, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. Vice chancellor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury highlighted that NSU was the first university in South Asia to establish a Confucius Institute, which continues to play a pivotal role in language training, student exchanges and cultural initiatives.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen expressed confidence that bilateral relations would reach “new heights,” underscoring youth engagement and people-to-people exchanges. Adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Farida Akhter emphasized opportunities in trade, fisheries and technology while NSU trustee board member Benajir Ahmed noted China’s role in Bangladesh’s infrastructure and economic growth.
Two technical sessions examined education, media, and language, with experts discussing the portrayal of China in Bangladeshi media, digital consumption patterns and the growing demand for Mandarin in trade and employment. Challenges such as teacher shortages and limited curriculum integration were addressed, with calls for stronger policy support and early language education.
The China–Bangladesh Youth Forum brought together academics and students from both nations to share insights on higher education, cultural adaptation, economic cooperation, and people-to-people ties.
Celebrations concluded with a three-day Dhaka–China Day Film Festival, screening Chinese and Bangladeshi films including The Truth 1, Ne Zha 1, Utshob and The Truth 2.
