Department of Marketing and International Business at North South University (NSU) hosted a special career development event titled “Beyond the Books: Crafting Careers in Marketing and International Business” on campus yesterday. Organized by the department’s Student Experience and Community Building Committee, the session aimed to provide students with practical guidance for building successful careers in marketing and international business.

Keynote speakers—Md. Asifur Rahman senior brand manager British American Tobacco Bangladesh, Yasir Ahsan vice president merchant payments of commercial division bKash Limited and Wara Farzana financial crime operations analyst National Australia Bank—are all distinguished alumni of the department. Drawing from their professional experience in both local and international organizations, they shared valuable tips on navigating career paths, leveraging university resources, and maintaining a balance between academics and extracurricular activities.

Session was graced by the presence of Dr. Waresul Karim dean of the School of Business and Economics and Dr. Khandaker Md. Nahin Mamun chair of the Department of Marketing and International Business along with faculty members and a large number of enthusiastic students.

This NSU career guidance event served as an engaging platform for current students to connect with successful alumni, gain real-world insights and explore diverse career opportunities in marketing and international business.

North South University Architecture Department Hosts “Gram Bangla” Themed Fresher-Farewell Event

Dhaka, Bangladesh – July 13, 2025 — The Department of Architecture at North South University (NSU) hosted a memorable event celebrating both new and outgoing students through a unique cultural theme: “Gram Bangla” (Village Bengal). Held at the department’s Sky Gallery, the function reflected NSU’s commitment to blending architectural education with cultural heritage.

The event began at 3 PM and welcomed new architecture students while bidding farewell to the recent graduates of the department. Faculty members, freshers, alumni, and graduating students came together in a vibrant gathering that honored the traditions of rural Bengal.

A Tribute to Rural Bengali Culture

Themed “Village Bangla,” the venue was beautifully decorated with bamboo installations, earthen tones, rural motifs, and architectural models that recreated the charm of a traditional Bengali village. The immersive setting showcased how architecture can celebrate regional identity while encouraging creative thinking.

Welcoming Freshers and Honoring Graduates

The program began with an introductory session for the freshers, offering them insight into NSU’s creative academic environment and the diverse scope of architectural study.

Later, the outgoing students were felicitated in an emotional segment where Assistant Professor Shahriar Iqbal Raj, Chairperson of the department, along with other faculty members, presented them with certificates and mementos. Graduates were praised for their perseverance, creativity, and lasting contributions to the department.

Architecture Rooted in Culture

Faculty members emphasized that “Gram Bangla” was more than a visual theme—it was a pedagogical approach to link architecture, culture, and identity. The initiative encouraged students to explore how modern architectural design can stay connected to local traditions and vernacular aesthetics.

Aziz Al Kaiser Appointed Chairman of North South University Board of Trustees

Dhaka, Bangladesh — June 2025:
Aziz Al Kaiser has been elected as the new chairman of the board of trustees of North South University (NSU), Bangladesh’s first and leading private university. He succeeds Azim Uddin Ahmed following a decision made at the NSU Board’s annual general meeting.

Aziz Al Kaiser is a well-known Bangladeshi businessman, currently serving as the chairman of City Bank and Partex Star Group. He is the son of M.A. Hashem, a founding member of North South University and former chairman of the board of trust, further strengthening his long-standing ties to the institution.

In his remarks, Aziz Al Kaiser stated:

“North South University has come a long way thanks to dedicated leadership and hard work. I aim to take this university to greater heights and make it a global hub for quality education and research.”

NSU vice chancellor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury expressed optimism about the university’s future under the new leadership, noting that Aziz Al Qaiser’s experience and vision would further advance NSU’s mission.

Founded in 1992, North South University is the first private university in Bangladesh known for its academic excellence, global partnerships and research-driven programs.

Strengthening Kosovo–Bangladesh Cultural and Academic Relations

The Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Dhaka in partnership with North South University (NSU) proudly hosted Kosovo Film Day 2025 to commemorate the 26th Anniversary of Kosovo’s Liberation Day (12 June 1999). This landmark event celebrated Kosovar cinema, fostered cultural diplomacy and opened new avenues for international academic collaboration between Kosovo and Bangladesh.

A Showcase of Kosovar Cinema

Held in the university’s main auditorium, Kosovo Film Day 2025 attracted over 500 attendees across two sessions. The audience included:

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh
Members of the diplomatic corps
Government officials, business leaders, and civil society representatives
Faculty and students from NSU
Officers from the Diplomatic Security Division

Opening Remarks by Ambassador Lulzim Pllana

In his keynote address, Ambassador Lulzim Pllana, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Bangladesh, highlighted the symbolic and educational value of the event:

“Kosovo’s journey to independence has been shaped by tremendous challenges, but also by an unshakable belief in peace, democracy, and human rights. Through art and education, we honour those who sacrificed and continue to build bridges of friendship.”

Critically Acclaimed Kosovar Films Screened

Three powerful and award-winning Kosovar films were screened, offering insight into the country’s rich history and resilient spirit:

Hive (Zgjoi) – Directed by Blerta Basholli, this Sundance-winning drama tells the story of Fahrije Hoti, a war widow challenging societal norms to support her family in post-war Kosovo.
Cold November (Nëntor i Ftohtë) – Directed by Ismet Sijarina, this film explores the personal and political dilemmas during Kosovo’s civil resistance in the 1990s.
The Hero (Heroi) – Directed by Luan Kryeziu, it dives into post-war trauma, identity, and the burden carried by returning veterans.

Academic Cooperation Between Kosovo and Bangladesh

During the event, Ambassador Pllana announced upcoming academic partnerships between NSU and top universities in Kosovo, including:

The goal is to promote joint research, faculty and student exchange programs, and media and cultural studies initiatives.

Institutional Dialogue and Future Collaboration

Ambassador Pllana was formally welcomed by Prof Dr Abdur Rob Khan, Acting Vice-Chancellor of NSU. Their meeting emphasized a mutual commitment to enriching educational ties and empowering youth in both countries.

“Events like Kosovo Film Day deepen our understanding of each other’s identities and histories. They open doors for long-term collaboration rooted in mutual respect and shared values,” said Prof Khan.
